You may renew your passport by mail if ALL of the following are true about your current passport: you can submit it with your application, it is not damaged other than normal wear and tear, it has never been reported lost or stolen, it was issued within the last 15 years, it was issued after the age of 16, it was issued in your current name or you can provide original documented proof of a name change, it was valid for 10 years.

How long is a passport valid and when should I renew my passport?
Your passport is valid for 10 years if it was issued after the age of 16. If it was issued prior to the age of 16, then it is valid for 10 years.
NOTE: Some countries require that your passport be valid at least six (6) months beyond the dates of your scheduled trip. You should renew your passport approximately nine months before it expires. Some airlines will not allow you to board if this requirement is not met.
How long does it take to get a passport?
Processing times vary depending on workload and occasional unforeseen circumstances. Customers are encouraged to expedite their applications if traveling in less than 13 weeks.
